Bertel / Embassy stool, SE 2018

Stool inspired by the distinctive gates of Thorvaldsen’s Museum. The craftsmanship is emphasized by the legs, which are recessed together with the seat. The wood growth rings in the two halves of the seat are oriented so that a lenticular pattern is created when the seat is given its shape. The ends have been given a small, classicist profile that feels nice to the hands. The stool is treated with oil to enhance the warm glow of the wood.

It was bought by the Danish Arts Foundation and placed at the Danish embassy in London, built by the architect Arne Jacobsen.

Cabinetmaker Steen Jönsson built it.
