Asking the material what it wants
In his work at DIS' Furniture Design Studio, Christoffersen is known for a pedagogy that is based on the material's own premises. His teaching in prototypes and design processes revolves around an in-depth material study, where the students are challenged in their work with solid wood, plywood and veneer. His unofficial but fundamental teaching dogma can be summed up in: "To ask the materials what they want." The purpose is to teach the students to find the design that best highlights the inner qualities and inherent strengths of the material.
